Documentation

In the delivery of Data Centre Documentation, PTS offers a wide range of key documentation essential in the delivery of Good Governance. The Documentation delivered forms the deliverable from in most cases a short assignment delivered by one of our Data Centre specialists. The current list (not exhaustible and if your requirement is not here, please reach out to us).

Initial Assessment and Planning

The PTS team undertake a full assessment of your in-scope Data Centre providing data in diagrams, tables and textual descriptions and where applicable photographs. PTS will also as an output of meetings and workshops analyse data to create a set of objectives and requirements and where applicable rate these using the MoSCoW analysis tool. All documentation produced is provided at the level of the intended audience.

Inventory and Asset Documentation

PTS can develop a full inventory for all your assets (to include manufacturer, model, serial number, location) within the Data Centre. PTS can also attach Asset Labels or RFiD labels for easier tracking the assets, with data entered into an Asset Management Database. As an output PTS can provide a physical snapshot report of the Database. With additional meetings and consolidation PTS can merge Warranties and Maintenance Contracts against Assets to provide a comprehensive Data Centre hardware database.

PTS can also undertake physical inventory of cabling and provide a Patch Matrix back as an outcome.

Network Diagrams

Through our PTS Network Subject Matter Experts, we can create detailed network diagrams illustrating the physical and logical layout of the Data Centre.

Include IP addresses, VLANs, routing, and firewall configurations. Documentation can be provided using your standard network templates or PTS’ templates.

Server and Rack Documentation

The Server Rack configuration documentation is so often out of sync with the reality as IT Technology Teams don’t update documentation after MACs. The PTS SMEs will take existing documentation and undertake a full audit of the Data Centre updating the Rack Configurations (and if permitted provide photos of the front and rear of each rack). Where required we can include Patch Matrix information as part of the supplied documentation.

Physical Security Documentation

Our Physical Security specialist can undertake a review of the Physical Security of a Data Centre or a Data Hall, to include; access control, CCTV surveillance, alarms and sensors).

Backup and Disaster Recovery Plans

Always a challenge within organisations is assessing whether Backup’s meet the needs of the Data Governance requirements. PTS will undertake a full assessment of the existing Backup regime and provide a view of the data backed up and the frequency of the backup including its retention period. The data provided is a good assessment of all of the organisations data governance and also a good basis for the migration from one tool to another where services are manually migrated. The outcome is a report providing an Executive Summary of findings and recommendations as well as a comprehensive assessment of all backups and their retention period.
